  • Eating in whitehall

For some reason, I have found more interesting eating in Whitehall over the past few years than in Reynoldsburg. Not saying there isn't anything interesting here - just more "next door". For instance, in Reynoldsburg, most of the eating I've done are at the chains. Oh, I have eaten a couple times at the little Oriental place on Livingston, just west of the high school. And I love the sandwiches at Vic's pizza. And I've not had problems at El Portal (though family members no longer wish to go there because of their own personal experiences). I've eaten at a half dozen or so other oriental places in Reynoldsburg - only the ones on Broad street just east of Rose Hill do I return to.

In Whitehall, there's three ethnic restaurants on Hamilton, one just north of Livingston (Ethiopean), one just north of Main (Latin Cafe - Caribbean and Mexican), and one a few blocks north of Main (Vietnamese, Thai and Laotian), as well as a Greek place just off Main and Hamilton (Greek Corner). And of course there are a variety of chain places there that I return to on occasion - Sonic, A&W, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chick-fa-la (most of which are located close to Hamilton Rd). Alas, the one east side Indian restaurant that I liked is gone now (Bombay Garden, across the street from Red Lobster).

There's lots of other places in East Columbus to eat - a number of choices in Gahanna and New Albany.

If you try out Latin Cafe, try Mofongo - a garlic and plantain concoction that can come with a choice of meat or seafood if you wish. It is yummy. It is a bit pricey though ($13 for an entree and a iceberg salad).

At Indochina (I think that might be the name), I was there on the weekend and had a weekend special of a beef stew (with a variety of herbs that I could and did add on my own), 2 Viet spring rolls, and a Thai tea that was so yummy.
